317 and 317L are high-molybdenum austenitic stainless steels with enhanced corrosion resistance compared with 316 grades. Their higher chromium, nickel, and molybdenum contents provide excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chemical attack. 317L is the low-carbon version with improved weldability and resistance to intergranular corrosion.
