632 stainless steel, commonly known as 15-7MoPH stainless steel, is a precipitation-hardening semi-austenitic stainless steel grade designated as UNS S15700. It was developed to provide a combination of very high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, good toughness, and superior dimensional stability. The alloy is designed as an improved version of 17-7PH stainless steel, with increased molybdenum content to enhance mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.

The chemical composition of 15-7MoPH stainless steel includes approximately 15% chromium, 7% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum, with aluminum additions for precipitation hardening. The alloy achieves high strength through a controlled heat treatment process involving solution treatment, conditioning, and aging. During aging, aluminum-rich precipitates form within the martensitic matrix, producing excellent tensile strength and fatigue resistance.

632 stainless steel bars have a semi-austenitic structure in the solution-treated condition and transform into martensite during conditioning treatment. After precipitation hardening, the material provides exceptional strength, good corrosion resistance, and excellent resistance to distortion. Compared with 17-7PH stainless steel, 15-7MoPH provides higher strength and improved resistance to general corrosion and stress corrosion cracking.

The alloy maintains good toughness and dimensional stability after heat treatment, making it suitable for precision components requiring tight tolerances. It also provides excellent spring properties and fatigue resistance under repeated loading conditions.

15-7MoPH stainless steel bars are widely used in aerospace components, aircraft structural parts, high-strength springs, diaphragms, valve components, pressure sensors, fasteners, chemical processing equipment, and precision mechanical components where high strength and corrosion resistance are required.
