FAQs

300 series stainless steel refers to a family of austenitic stainless steel alloyed with chromium and nickel. It features outstanding corrosion resistance, good weldability and formability, making it the most widely used stainless steel grade for global industrial applications. Common grades include 302, 302HQ, 303, 304 and 304L.

The most popular grades of 300 series stainless steel are 302, 302HQ, 303, 304 and 304L. 304 / 304L is the standard 18-8 stainless steel. 303 is free-machining grade, while 302HQ is optimized for cold heading fastener wire.

We supply 300 series stainless steel in multiple product forms: round bar, hex bar, flat bar, seamless & welded pipe, tube, coil, sheet, wire, mesh and pipe fittings. Custom cutting and processing services are available.

304L is the low-carbon variant of 304 within 300 series stainless steel. Lower carbon reduces intergranular corrosion after heavy welding. Choose 304L for welding-intensive projects, and standard 304 for general use.

Annealed 300 series stainless steel is non-magnetic. It may show slight magnetism after cold working, bending or machining. This physical change does not mean the material is off-spec or low quality.

300 series stainless steel is widely used in food & beverage equipment, sanitary piping, architectural fabrication, pharmaceutical machinery, chemical processing, general machined parts and fastener manufacturing.

Yes. All batches of our 300 series stainless steel are ASTM compliant and supplied with Mill Test Reports (MTR) upon request to verify chemical composition and mechanical properties.

Absolutely. Detect-Metals offers custom cutting, sizing and processing for 300 series stainless steel. Send your drawings or dimension requirements when submitting a quote request.

We provide common finishes for 300 series stainless steel, including 2B, BA, bright drawn, pickled and polished finishes, selected according to your application requirements.

For general corrosion resistance and welding, pick 304/304L. For CNC machining, choose 303. For fasteners and cold heading applications, 302HQ is the preferred grade. Our technical team can help you select suitable grades.
