7075 Aluminum Bar and Rod

Grade: 7075

Size:

Cold drawn: 2mm-12mm

Extruded: 6mm-400mm

Standard: ASTM, AMS, BS etc.

7075 is a high strength aluminum zinc magnesium copper alloy widely used for aerospace and demanding mechanical components. Bar and rod in T6 or T651 offer high strength and good machining performance. Overaged T73 or T7351 trades some strength for improved stress corrosion resistance. Surface protection and service assessment remain important in aggressive environments. Critical assemblies generally use mechanical joining instead of conventional fusion welding. Product route, section size and test direction influence the properties accepted for a particular order.

Chemical composition

Element Mass percent Element Mass percent
Si 0.40 Fe 0.50
Cu 1.2–2.0 Mn 0.30
Mg 2.1–2.9 Cr 0.18–0.28
Zn 5.1–6.1 Ti 0.20
Additional — Others each / total 0.05 / 0.15
Al Remainder

Mechanical properties by temper

Temper Size or basis UTS MPa Yield MPa Elongation %

T6 / T651 Typical rod/bar 572 503 11
T73 / T7351 Typical rod/bar 503 434 13

Application areas

  • High load aircraft fittings and structural parts
  • Precision tooling and highly loaded machine components
  • Sporting equipment and other weight sensitive machined parts
