6063 Aluminum Tube/Pipe

Grade: 6063

Size:

Extruded: 6mm*1mm-400mm*40mm

Seamless: 70mm*10mm-270mm*60mm

Forged: 120mm*20mm-1200mm*200mm

Standard: ASTM, AMS, BS etc.

6063 is a heat-treatable aluminum magnesium silicon alloy best known for architectural extrusions, smooth surface finish and attractive anodizing response. It offers good corrosion resistance and weldability but lower strength than common structural plate alloys such as 6061 and 6082. Although flat products may be offered by specialist suppliers, rolled plate availability and certification require specific confirmation. Extruded flat bar sold as plate must be identified correctly because its product standard and mechanical requirements differ from rolled plate.

Chemical composition

Element Limit in wt percent
Silicon Si 0.20–0.60
Iron Fe ≤0.35
Copper Cu ≤0.10
Manganese Mn ≤0.10
Magnesium Mg 0.45–0.90
Chromium Cr ≤0.10
Zinc Zn ≤0.10
Titanium Ti ≤0.10
Other elements each ≤0.05
Other elements total ≤0.15
Aluminum Al Balance

Mechanical properties by temper

Temper Condition or thickness Rm MPa Rp0.2 MPa Elongation % Basis
O Annealed 90 50 N/V Typical tube/pipe [5]
T4 Natural aging 170 90 22 Typical tube/pipe [5]
T5 Aged after shaping 185 145 12 Typical tube/pipe [5]
T6 Solution treated and aged 240 215 12 Typical tube/pipe [5]

Application fields

  • Architectural and decorative components requiring a good anodized finish.
  • Lightweight covers, trims and noncritical flat components when certified flat stock is available.
  • Heat dissipation components and electrical equipment parts.
  • Window, door and curtain wall profiles, plus air cylinder tubing; these are predominantly extruded or tubular applications rather than rolled plate.
