Nickel 200 is commercially pure wrought nickel combining useful strength and ductility with high thermal and electrical conductivity. It is selected for many alkaline and reducing environments, especially where equipment must preserve product purity. The material is readily formed and welded. For prolonged exposure above approximately 315°C, low carbon Nickel 201 is generally preferred because Nickel 200 can suffer graphitization related embrittlement.
Chemical composition
| Element | Weight percent |
| Ni plus Co | 99.0 min |
| Fe | 0.40 max |
| Mn | 0.35 max |
| Si | 0.35 max |
| Cu | 0.25 max |
| C | 0.15 max |
| S | 0.01 max |
Limiting chemical composition in weight percent; nickel includes cobalt. [6]
Product specifications
| Product form | Specification route | Qualification |
| Plate sheet strip | ASTM B162 / ASME SB162 | Rolled products |
| Rod bar | ASTM B160 / ASME SB160 | Wrought solid products |
| Seamless pipe tube | ASTM B161 / ASME SB161 | General seamless products |
| Heat exchanger tube | ASTM B163 / ASME SB163 | Seamless condenser and heat exchanger tube |

| Welded tube | ASTM B730 / ASME SB730 | Welded tube |
| Wire | ISO 9724; DIN 17753 | Manufacturer referenced specifications |
Product standards are grade specific. ASME counterparts require the edition adopted by the relevant construction code. [6, 13]
Mechanical properties
| Product and condition | Tensile MPa | Yield MPa | Elongation % |
| Annealed rod bar | 380–520 | 105–210 | 40–55 |

| Annealed tubing | 380–520 | 85–210 | 40–60 |
Nominal room temperature ranges; yield is 0.2 percent offset and elongation uses approximately 51 mm gauge length. These are not specification minima. [6]
Application areas
- Caustic chemical handling and processing equipment
- Food and synthetic fiber processing equipment
- Electrical connectors and electronic components
