INCONEL 600 is a nickel chromium iron alloy for equipment exposed to heat and corrosive environments. Its nickel content supports resistance to many chemical media, while chromium improves oxidation resistance. Strength is controlled mainly through solid-solution effects and working rather than precipitation aging. The alloy combines practical fabrication behavior with useful performance in furnace hardware, chemical processing and selected nuclear applications.
Chemical composition
| Element | Weight percent | Element | Weight percent |
| Ni + Co | 72.0 min | Cr | 14.0–17.0 |
| Fe | 6.0–10.0 | C | 0.15 max |
| Mn | 1.0 max | S | 0.015 max |
| Si | 0.50 max | Cu | 0.50 max |
Mechanical properties
Typical room-temperature ranges from Special Metals Table 6; annealed products. Values combine different sizes and are not specification minima.
| Product / condition | 0.2% yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elongation % |
| Cold-drawn bar, annealed | 170–345 | 550–690 | 35–55 |
| Hot-finished bar, annealed | 205–345 | 550–690 | 35–55 |
| Hot-rolled plate, annealed | 205–345 | 550–725 | 35–55 |
| Cold-rolled sheet, annealed | 205–310 | 550–690 | 35–55 |
Elongation ranges have been arranged in ascending order. Cold-worked material can show substantially higher strength and lower ductility.
Application areas
- Furnace retorts, baskets and heat-treatment fixtures
- Chemical process heaters and evaporator equipment
- Selected nuclear reactor components
