310S stainless steel is a highly alloyed austenitic heat-resistant stainless steel designed for severe high-temperature service.
It contains approximately 25% chromium and 20% nickel, which provide excellent oxidation resistance, high-temperature strength, and
superior resistance to carburizing, nitriding, and sulfidizing environments compared with conventional stainless steels such as 304 and 316.
The high chromium content promotes the formation of a stable chromium oxide protective layer, which significantly improves scaling
resistance during prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures. The high nickel content stabilizes the austenitic structure, improves
thermal cycling resistance, and enhances resistance to carburization and oxidation in demanding industrial environments.
310S is the low-carbon version of Type 310 stainless steel. The reduced carbon content improves weldability and reduces the risk of
chromium carbide precipitation during welding and high-temperature exposure. This makes 310S suitable for welded fabrications where
corrosion resistance and structural stability must be maintained.
Although primarily designed for high-temperature applications, 310S also provides good corrosion resistance in many aqueous
environments. However, it is not generally selected for chloride-rich solutions where molybdenum-containing grades may perform better.
310S stainless steel is widely used in furnace components, heat treatment equipment, petrochemical processing units, combustion
systems, radiant tubes, kiln parts, and high-temperature industrial equipment. Stainless steel bars manufactured from 310S are used
for shafts, supports, fasteners, and structural components requiring excellent heat resistance.
