2205 duplex stainless steel is a widely used duplex stainless steel combining approximately equal proportions of austenitic and ferritic microstructures. It contains higher chromium and molybdenum than conventional austenitic grades, together with nitrogen strengthening, providing excellent corrosion resistance, high mechanical strength, and good resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
Compared with 316L stainless steel, 2205 offers significantly higher yield strength and superior resistance to chloride-induced corrosion. The duplex structure provides a balanced combination of toughness, weldability, and corrosion performance. It is especially suitable for applications exposed to seawater, chlorides, and aggressive chemical environments.
2205 is widely used in oil and gas, chemical processing, marine, and industrial applications where high strength and corrosion resistance are required. It provides an economical alternative to higher alloy stainless steels while maintaining excellent long-term reliability.
